CEF Level:
B2 Year level:9 Suggested Duration:1hour & 15 mins General Aim:
The general aim of this activity:
(i)To assist in the learning of different catagories of topics that can be included in a story book and what types of descriptions can be used to describe a place, an animal and object from a particular country.
(ii)To be introduced to the format of a book, for instance; contents, page numbers, headings etc.
(iii)For students to learn how to search information on a particular subject and search for images and apply to their required work, in this case, students will search some images and animals on the internet or in books to use in their story book.
What do you assume the students already know?
(i)How to form simple sentences in reference to applying to different subjects and topics. For example, This is Germany….
(ii)Students would have already seen and read books in reference to how to describe places and animals and what types of sentences they can form.
Relationship with Other Lessons:
What came before?
Students were introduced to a basic introduction on adjectives and what types of adjectives are used for places, people and things.
At the same time students were also given a variety of vocabulary words that would be useful to them while they are describing places and animals etc
What’s coming next? Presenting their ideas to the class and what types of adjectives they used to describe a combination of places found in Australia
Also, students will present their story line to the class.
Mode(s) of Classroom Organisation: (Circle as appropriate)
Individual, Pair, Group
Potential Problems:
The pairs might have trouble concluding to an idea or might not be able to be compatible with each other.
The individuals will be too shy or not confident enough to form ideas and create sentences on their own.
Counter Strategy:
If such an atmosphere occurs I would then first ask the students to put themselves in pairs and those who want to work individuals. However, even if this causes trouble, then I wouldn't ask students to present in class, therefore, students won't feel conscious of presenting.
